Ligikuu: Defending Champions,Young Africans held at Home

Young Africans                                  1-1                   Coastal Union
Match 2- Wed 28 August, National Stadium
                                            Referee Martin Sanya

A last, last second Jerry Santo penalty denied Young Africans a second straight victory in a tightly contested encounter at the National Stadium. The match was marred by indiscipline from both sides that saw two players being sent off.

The first half ended in a barren score with both sides failing to capitalize on defensive mistakes. Yanga looked more threatening going forward. Coastal Union coach, Hemed Morocco was forced into an early tactical substitution, introducing Kassim ‘Selembe’ for Uhuru Seleman to shore up the midfield.

After the restart, Young Africans coach, Ernie Brandts introduced Hamis Thabit and Hussein Javu for Jerson Tegete and Salum Telela who had been booked in the first half. The substitutions seemed to pay off dividend when Burundian striker Didier Kavumbagu opened the scoring in the 68th minute.
Ten minutes after Young Africans took the lead, Saimon Msuva and Crispin Odula were both sent off. Just when it seemed the Jangwani side was walking away with a narrow victory, the match referee, Martin Sanya awarded a penalty to Coastal Union.  Skipper, Jerry Santo converted from the spot to give his side a hard-earned away draw against the defending champions.

The result saw Young Africans drop to second position with four points and a better goal difference while Coastal Union climb to joint third with Azam also on four points after two rounds of matches in the Vodacom Premiership log.
